WI BIO - Richland Co - ROBINSON, William History of Crawford & Richland Counties, Wisconsin. Springfield: Union, 1884, Part 2, p 1033 William ROBINSON, a well-known early settler of the town of Eagle [Richland County, Wisconsin], was born 23 October 1808 in Franklin County, Kentucky, six miles from the State Capital [Frankfort]. Here his early days were spent. In 1829 he with his parents emigrated to Indiana, and were among the early settlers of Tippecanoe County. His father purchased timber land in Tippecanoe and Clinton Counties. The subject of this sketch [William ROBINSON] returned to Kentucky in the fall of 1832, and was married in Anderson County to [Miss?] Rebecca RICHARDSON, and came back to Clinton County [Indiana] and began clearing a farm. In 1850 he came to Richland County [Wisconsin] with the MILLER brothers, to assist them in moving here. He was at that time favorably impressed with the country, and although it was a wild, unsettled region, inhabited by Indians and wild beasts, he thought it must become settled at no distant day, and he entered 160 acres on Section 24, the northeast quarter [in Eagle Township, Section 24 lying west of Hoosier Creek, between this creek and the 4th Principal Meridian]. In 1852 William ROBINSON sold his farm in Indiana, and started with his family for their new home. They took two wagon loads of goods and two pairs of horses. They reached their destination after traveling fourteen days and moved into a vacant log house nearby until he could cut logs and build one on his own land. As soon as it was completed, he commenced the clearing of a farm. The next year he purchased land adjoining his, on the northwest quarter of Section 24, and there in 1855 erected the first frame dwelling in the town [Eagle], the same that he still occupies. It is a commodious, two-story building, and has always been kept in good repair. He has also built a good frame barn and other buildings. His farm is located in the neighborhood known as Hoosier Valley. [Section 24 is west of Hoosier Creek, between this creek and the 4th Principal Meridian.] Mrs. ROBINSON [Rebecca, wife of William] died 18 May 1860, leaving seven children: James, Silas, Sarah J., Benjamin, Monroe, Mary, and Ann. He [William ROBINSON] was again married in 1861, to Mary SHULER [a maiden name?], a native of Lycoming County, Pennsylvania. Two children have blessed this union [of William and Mary ROBINSON]: Robert, born 26 December 1862; and Edwin. Robert ROBINSON spent his younger days in school and on the farm, and 15 November 1883 was married to [Miss] Mary MAINWARRING, daughter of John and Eliza MAINWARRING. He [Robert ROBINSON] lives at home and manages the farm [in Eagle Township, Richland County]. Submitted by Cathy Kubly
