WI BIO - Richland Co - RICHARDS, William History of Crawford & Richland Counties, Wisconsin. Springfield: Union, 1884, Part 2, pp 1121-1122 William RICHARDS, deceased, one of the earliest settlers of English Ridge [160 acres, Section 27, Marshall Township, Richland County, Wisconsin], was born 06 September 1816 in Cambridgeshire, England. On 19 January 1846 he [William RICHARDS] was married to [Miss?] Mary MINETT, who was born 11 July 1823 in Cambridgeshire [England]. In 1850 they [William and Mary RICHARDS] came to America, landed at New York, came directly to Wisconsin, and located in Walworth County, remaining there until 1855, when they came to Richland County and settled on Section 27, of the Town of Marshall. Here he cleared a farm and built a log cabin, which, a few years later, was replaced by a frame house, in which he lived until the time of his death. He was an enterprising and industrious man, respected by all who knew him. Mr. and Mrs. RICHARDS [William and Mary RICHARDS] are the parents of seven [p 1122] children: William, John, Sarah, James; Ella, who died 13 March 1881, aged twenty-three years and five months; Harriet; and Lucy.
