Fort Atkinson; born in St. Lawrence Co., N.Y., May 4, 1823; at an early age, he was employed at rafting lumber; leaving that, he traveled through the county selling, in a retail way; afterward, worked in New Hampshire, Connecticut and Massachusetts; then returned to Essex Co., N.Y., where he farmed. In the spring of 1849, was first employed in pineries; worked at various occupations; finally settled in Hebron Township, Jefferson Co., Wis. Married, in Hebron Township, Nov. 12, 1851, Miss Elmira Noyes, who was born in New York in May, 1832; they had nine children, eight are living – Charles S ., Ellen A., Frank H., Alvaretta, James D., Mamie E., Eugene and infant unnamed. Mr. Ramsey bought, in Hebron Township, forty acres of land, which he improved and lived on until the spring of 1876, at which time he removed to Oakland Township; bought 120 acres of land, on which are good fences and buildings; raises usual crops and stock of the county; takes pride in dairying.
