PORTER, lawyer, Jefferson; born at Perrysburg, Cattaraugus Co., N.Y., Nov. 4, 1837; came to Wisconsin with his parents in 1845, and settled in York, Dane Co.; was admitted to practice at Jefferson in September, 1862; Dec. 22, 1862, came to Jefferson, and Jan. 1, 1863, took charge of the office of Clerk of the Board of Supervisors, as Deputy, which office he occupied two years; in November, 1864, was elected Clerk, and filled the office two years. In January, 1866, formed a partnership with D. F. Weymouth, which was dissolved in the spring of 1872; in 1872, went to Iowa, and remained till January, 1874, and has practiced law at Jefferson since that time. Held several minor offices in the town and city. Jan. 15, 1864, married Kate B. Montrose; she was born in Michigan Aug. 13, 1843, and moved to Wisconsin with her parents in 1845; have three children – Clarence J., born Oct. 15, 1864; Frank H., June 23, 1866; Walter D., Sept. 23, 1870.
