Humphrey Pinney, born in Somerset County, England, came to America with Rev. John Wareham, on board the ship “Mary and John,” which sailed from Plymouth, England, March 30, 1630, and settled in Dorchester, Mass. His son, Aseph Pinney, was born in Simsbury, Conn., and married Betty Willcocks; they had four children: Eliza, Emma, (**see footnote)Asaph O., and Harvey W. He was a farmer and school teacher. Aseph O. Pinney, the subject of this sketch, was born in Colebrook, Conn., March 9, 1805. He received a common-school education. On May 17, 1840, he married Elizabeth M. Phelps; taught school a number of years, and acted as school-visitor some years after.
