Burlington: Ullery Publishing Company, 1912, p 201 Wallace Harry GILPIN, editor, Barton [Orleans County, Vermont], was born 19 November 1883 at Westfield [Orleans County, Vermont], son of William Bullock and Harriet (FARMAN) GILPIN. Educated in the public schools of Westfield, and at Barton Academy [Orleans County], and Montpelier Seminary [Washington County]. In 1900 learned the printer's trade; later purchased a job printing office at Orleans; in 1904 purchased the Orleans County "Monitor" and job printing office at Barton [Orleans County]; and in 1909 took Franz A. HUNT into partnership in the job printing business under the [firm] name of Monitor Press of Barton, and Valley Print at Orleans. Mr. GILPIN is sole owner and editor of the "Monitor." In 1906 he organized the Vermont Realty Company, real estate dealers, Barton. In 1908 this was consolidated with King & Nelson, real estate dealers, and the King & Nelson Company, Inc., was formed, with Mr. GILPIN as treasurer. Is also secretary of the Barton Granite Promoting Company, Barton. Is library trustee of the town of Barton, and treasurer of the library board. Member of the Barton Republican town committee; and on the board of trustees of the Barton Academy and graded school district. Member of Barton Congregational Church; deacon; president of Orleans County Christian Endeavor Union; and an officer in the state organization. Also a member of Malta Commandery No. 10, Knights Templar, Newport; Keystone Chapter No. 16, Royal Arch Masons, Barton, holding office in the same; Orleans Lodge No. 55, Free & Accepted Masons, Barton, in which he holds office; Crystal Lake Grange, Barton; Modern Woodmen of America; and is secretary of the Barton Development Association and instrumental in its organization.
