Clayton Lemuel ERWIN, educator, Barton [Orleans County, Vermont], was born 02 
September 1880 at Piermont [Grafton County], New Hampshire, son of Lemuel 
Stuart and Marion Amanda (ROOD) ERWIN. Educated at Bradford Academy [Orange 
County], graduating in 1899; Montpelier Seminary [Washington County], and 
Dartmouth College, class of 1903. Was assistant principal Barton Academy 
1904-1906; again from 1908 to present time. Was principal of Orleans High 
School 1906-1908. Republican. President of Barton Landing Lecture 
Association 1907; member of executive committee Barton Lecture Course 
Association. Member Methodist Episcopal Church. Master Mason Orleans Lodge 
No. 55, Free & Accepted Masons of Barton; member Keytstone Chapter No. 16, 
Royal Arch Masons, Barton; Malta Commandery No. 10, Knights Templar of 
Newport; captain of the host, Keystone Chapter No. 16, Barton, 1909-1910; 
king in same 1910-1911; high priest since 1911; member of Le Beau Lac Boat 
Club of Barton, and Willoughby Fish and Game Club; coach of athletic teams of 
Barton Academy and Barton Landing High School. In 1906 Mr. [Clayton Lemuel] 
ERWIN married [Miss?] Cora Mae MARSH of Glover [Orleans County, Vermont]; 
they have two daughters, Elizabeth Marion and Ruth Arlene.
