Orleans DAVISON, Amory Men of Vermont: Illustrated Biographical History of Vermonters & Sons of Vermont. Ullery. Brattleboro: Transcript Publishing Company, 1894, p 96 (portrait p 96) Amory DAVISON, of Craftsbury, was born 29 June 1830 in Craftsbury [Orleans County, Vermont], son of Amory and Nancy (MILLS) DAVISON. He came of an old Revolutionary family, and his grandfather served in the Continental army. Educated in the schools of Craftsbury and at Bakersfield and Craftsbury Academies. Commenced his business career as a farmer in 1854, and followed that occupation for twelve years, but at the end of that time turned his attention to buying and selling stock, in which business he continues to engage, though he has never lost his interests in agricultural pursuits. In 1868 was elected director of the Irasburg National Bank, and continued to act in that capacity until the affairs of that institution were wound up in 1875. When Barton National Bank was organized in 1875, he was chosen to fill successively the offices of director, vice president, and president, which last position he still retains. On 26 June 1855 he [Amory DAVISON] was united in marriage to A. Augusta, daughter of Merrill and Laurettea (WEST) WILLIAMS, of Greensboro [Orleans County, Vermont]. Three children have been the fruit of their marriage: Portus W., Amanda, and Julius E. Formerly a Whig of the Horace Greeley school, Mr. DAVISON joined the Republican party at its inception in 1854, and no less ardently adheres to their principles now as thirty-nine years since, or during the War of the Rebellion. He has been selected to fill about all of the town offices, and has served as selectman fourteen years; was sent to the Legislature in 1860, and was a state senator from Orleans County in 1892. Appointed railroad commissioner by Gov. PAGE, he was again assigned to this post by Gov. FULLER in 1892. Submitted by Cathy Kubly
