Burlington: Ullery Publishing Company, 1912, p 163 Walter Alden DANE, lawyer, Newport, was born 04 February 1882 at Newport [Orleans County, Vermont], son of Olin Sidney and Mabel (ROBINSON) DANE. Educated at Newport High School, University of Vermont, and George Washington University Law School, Washington, D. C. Mr. DANE was an instructor at the Burr and Burton Seminary, Manchester [Bennington County, Vermont], 1903-1905. Republican; was card messenger, House of Representatives, Washington, D. C., 1905; private secretary to the assistant secretary of the navy, Washington, D. C., 1907, and served in this capacity and studied law until 1908, when he was admitted to the bar of the District of Columbia. Was confidential secretary to the secretary of the navy, 1908, serving until the change of administration, 1909, when he was appointed private secretary to Hon. William P. DILLINGHAM, U. S. senator from Vermont. In 1909 he formed a law partnership with Hon. F. C. WILLIAMS, Newport [Orleans County]. Member of the National Geographic Society, and Delta Psi and Phi Beta Kappa fraternities. In 1907 Mr. [Walter Alden] DANE married [Miss?] Bertha A.
