Brattleboro: Transcript Publishing Company, 1894, pp 69-70 (portrait p 70) Edgar Merritt CHASE, of Jay, was born 18 April 1857 in Jay [Orleans County, Vermont], son of Merrill and Electa (STICKNEY) CHASE. Having received his education at the public schools of Jay, he now owns and occupies a small farm at the village and for several years has been foreman in B. F. PAINE's lumber mill. He has held many town offices and was elected to the Legislature in 1892, where he served on general and several special committees. He has always been a strong Republican, and is a member of Masonic Union Lodge, No. 16, of Troy [Orleans County, Vermont]. In religious belief is Methodist Episcopal. On 17 August 1881 Mr. [Edgar Merritt] CHASE married [Miss?] Myra BARTLETT, who died 17 November 1891, leaving two children: Charles Bartlett and Maud Electa. Submitted by Cathy Kubly
