PRICHARD, of Bradford [Vermont], was born 26 September 1839 in Bradford [Orange County, Vermont], and was the son of George W. and Elizabeth (PEARSON) PRICHARD. His educational acquirements were limited to the town schools and a course of study at Bradford Academy. He commenced his active life as clerk for his father, who was a merchant, and also served his brothers in a similar capacity. He was a member of the Bradford Guards, a company of the First Vermont Regiment, and accompanied them when they left the state at the outset of the Civil War. He was present at the battle of Big Bethel, and was mustered out with the regiment upon their return from the field in August 1861. When discharged from the service he [John B. PRICHARD] returned to Bradford and bought out his brother's stock and store, which he continued to carry on for three years. Then he went to Massachusetts and was engaged in trade until 1869, when he again returned to Bradford and formed a partnership with Barron HAY to engage in a general merchandise business, and this arrangement has lasted until the present time. Mr. PRICHARD was elected town clerk in 1870, and with the exception of a single year has been the incumbent of that office ever since; was three times selectman; and was elected as a Republican to represent Bradford in the state Legislature in 1882. Mr. PRICHARD has filled all the chairs of Charity Lodge No. 43, and two terms has presided in the east. HE was a charter member and has been adjutant and commander of Washburn Post No. 17, Grand Army of the Republic. On 21 January he [John B. W.
