Educated at Parsonsfield Seminary, North Parsonsfield [York County], Maine, graduating in 1889; Dartmouth College, A. B., 1894; Harvard University; and the University of Chicago, A. M., 1907. A teacher one year in ungraded schools; 1894-1895 a teacher of Greek and Latin, Collegiate School, New York City; 1895-1896 principal of Franklin, New Hampshire, High School [Merrimack County]; 1896-1898 a post graduate student at Harvard University and instructor of Latin at Dartmouth College; 1898-1900 principal of Vergennes High School [Addison County, Vermont]; 1900-1901 principal of Montpelier High School [Washington County, Vermont]; 1901-1904 superintendent at Montpelier and principal Montpelier High School; and 1904 to date principal of Randolph High School [Orange County, Vermont]. Student at the University of Chicago during the summer sessions, 1905-1907. Secretary of the Vermont State Teachers' Association 1900-1907, a member of its executive committee 1908-1909, and its president 1910. Independent in politics. Congregationalist, and superintendent of the Sunday school of Bethany Church. Member of the Alpha Delta Phi fraternity; Dorchester Lodge No. 1, Free & Accepted Masons, of Vergennes.
