HALE, hotel keeper, Wells River [Orange County, Vermont], was born 11 December 1855 at Corinth [Orange County, Vermont], son of Henry and Betsey (WILSON) HALE. Educated in the public schools of Corinth and Phillips School, Boston [Suffolk County, Massachusetts]. The first thirteen years of his life were spent on a farm. At fifteen he purchased a news and cigar stand at 27 Green Street, Boston, Massachusetts, continuing it for nine years. For the past thirty-three years has been engaged in the hotel, with a merited reputation which places him near the head of entertainers of the traveling public. Has presided over Hale's Tavern at Wells River for seventeen years with remarkable success. Republican. Religious preference Congregationalist.
