Brattleboro: Transcript Publishing Company, 1894, p 123 Curtis Stanton EMERY, of Chelsea [Orange County, Vermont], was born 06 November 1861 in Brookfield [Orange County, Vermont], son of Amos and Sarah M. (HIBBARD) EMERY. He removed with his parents to Chelsea in the spring of 1869. After receiving his education at the common schools and at Chelsea Academy, he read law with the late Hon. C. W. CLARKE and A. S. AUSTIN at Chelea; was admitted to the bar of Orange County in 1883, and to that of the Supreme Court at Montpelier [Washington County] in 1886; commenced practice at Chelsea at the time of his admission to the courts, and continued for three years, when he was appointed cashier of the First National Bank of Chelsea, which position he resigned in February 1893. He then resumed his profession, doing also a general insurance, loan and collection business; since 1888 has been a director of the Union Mutual Fire Insurance Company, of Montpelier; has held many town offices and was elected commissioner for Orange County in 1885, a position which he holds to the present time; was elected to the Legislature of 1888, being the youngest member of the House, and serving on the committee on elections. By a curious coincidence, his father [Amos EMERY] sat in the House at the same time, being a member from the town of Sharon [Windsor County]. He is now county auditor for Orange County. On 12 May 1887 he [Curtis Stanton EMERY] was united in marriage to Hattie J., daughter of Franklin and Maria R. ORDWAY, of Tunbridge [Orange County, Vermont]; they have two children: Sallie Helena and Donald. Mr. EMERY has held nearly all the offices in George Washington Lodge, No. 51, Free & Accepted Masons, of Chelsea, and at present occupies the Master's chair. For seven years was cashier First National Bank of Chelsea; is a director of the Union Mutual Fire Insurance Company, and the Passumpsic Telephone Company. Republican; county commissioner Orange County, 1885-1896; town clerk, Chelsea, 1894; clerk of Orange County, 1894-1905, when he resigned to become collector of customs, district of Memphremagog; represented Chelsea in the Legislature, 1888, being the youngest member in the House, his father [Amos EMERY] being a member of the same house from the town of Sharon; again representative in 1898 and 1900; senator from Orange County, 1902; served on the staff of Gov. E. C. SMITH with rank of colonel; member of executive committee of Republican state committee, 1904; many years on county and town committees. A 32 degree Mason, Shriner, Knight Templar; member of Elks; the Grange; associate member of Grand Army of the Republic; three years president of Young Men's Improvement Club, Newport [Orleans County]; and commodore Memphremagog Yacht Club. In 1884 Mr. [Curtis Stanton] EMERY married [Miss?] Harriet J. ORDWAY of Tunbridge [Orange County, Vermont]; they have three children: Sallie Helena, Donald, and Doris Elizabeth.
