Orange CELLEY, William E. S. Men of Vermont: Illustrated Biographical History of Vermonters & Sons of Vermont. Ullery. CELLEY, of Bradford [Orange County, Vermont], was born 07 January 1838 in Roxbury [Suffolk County], Massachusetts. His father's name was Benjamin, and his mother's Jane M. SAWYER. When he was three years of age his father's family removed to Bradford, and the following year to the town of Fairlee [Orange County, Vermont], where he now resides. He was educated at the public schools and at Bradford Academy. William was brought up on the farm of his father, a highly respected citizen, who twice represented the town in the state Legislature, and died at the advanced age of ninety-three. He has always resided on this and on the adjoining estate, and has devoted his attention to general farming; at present especially engaged in the productions of the dairy. On 13 June 1865 he [William E. S. CELLEY] was united in marriage to Jane C., daughter of Jasper and Celinda (HEATH) MOORE, of West Fairlee [Orange County, Vermont]. Two children have been born to them: Emma J., deceased; and George E., who resides with his parents. They have also an adopted child, H. Evelyn. Mr. CELLEY is a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church of Bradford (steward for many years); and has lately presented a fine bell to the Union Church of Fairlee as a memorial token in honor of his father; has been in various ways connected with other organizations of a religious and reformatory character; a man of independent convictions; supporter of temperance principles and prohibition; was district clerk thirty-four consecutive years; is a member of the board of school directors; a trustee of Bradford Academy; has held various offices in the town; in 1876 elected to the state Legislature; Republican.
