REV. LORENZ CONRAD, Pastor
of the Holy Trinity Church, was born in Bavaria on the 9th of August, 1829. His college education was in the
Gymnasium at Aschaffenburg, and theological at the
University of Wuerzburg, Bavaria. He was ordained
priest on the 14th of June, 1854, at the Seminary of
Wuerzburg; came to America in the Fall of 1854, and was missionary three years at Cross
Plains, Dane County, Wisconsin; after that time was
one and a half years near Columbus, Columbia County. In May, 1859, he
was appointed to the pastorate of the Holy Trinity Church, succeeding Rev. Jos.
SADLER, who was the first pastor of this Church. The Holy Trinity Church is the mother of all
the Catholic churches on the South Side; and Father CONRAD's pastorate has been
longer than that of any other Catholic priest in that section. He is one
of the Archbishop's Council. He has made improvements and additions valued
at $80,000. Three churches have been organized and separated from the
Trinity, and still the membership is more than double the number at the time he
became pastor. Father CONRAD is highly respected by all in the community.
