MEYER, William Christopher Commemorative and Biographical Record of Columbia, Sauk and Adams Counties, WI. Chicago: Ogle, 1901, p 616-617 William Christopher MEYER, a prosperous agirculturist of Reedsburg, Sauk County, WI, who has met with well-deserved success in his chosen calling, is a native of Germany, his birth having occurred in Sudeburg, province of Hanover, 27 Feb 1863. His parents, Henry and Dorothea (MEYER) MEYER, came with their family to the U. S. in 1864, and settled near Glenwood, Cook County, IL, later removing to Will County, that state. In his native land the father had been a plumber and tile inspector, but in his country he followed agricultural pursuits, and became one of the most substantial and prosperous farmers, as well as one of the most highly esteemed citizens of his community. In Oct 1891 he came to Reedsburg [Sauk County], WI, where he lived in retirement from active labor until called from this life 26 Feb 1893, at the age of 70 years. His wife is still living here at the age of 77 years. William Christopher MEYER, the subject of this review, grew to manhood in Cook County, IL, and for some years he successfully carried on a farm in Will County, IL. Coming to Sauk County, WI, in the fall of 1894, he took charge of a farm of 80 acres in Reedsburg Township, which his father had purchased a short time before his death. It is now nearly all under a high state of cultivation and most admirably improved. He has enlarged the barn until it is now 33x54 feet, has built a modern residence and has supplied the place with all the conveniences and accessories found upon a model farm of the 19th century. In connection with general farming he gives some attention to dairying. Besides his farm here he still owns a valuable piece of 220 acres near Crete [Will County], IL. Mr. MEYER was married on 13 Oct 1891 to Miss Dora LORENZEN, who was born in Uphonson, Holstein, Germany, and came to America in 1889. Her parents, Nicolai P. and Bendina (YESSEN) LORENZEN, are now living near Crete, IL. To our subject and his wife have been born the following children: Dora Bendina, Alvina Augusta, Alma Louise, and Esther Magdalena. The family hold membership in St. Peter's Lutheran church at Reedsburg [Sauk County, WI], and are quite prominent in the best social circles of their community. Since casting his first vote Mr. MEYER has affiliated with the Republican party, and he has most efficiently served as clerk of school district No. 4. Contributed by Cathy Kubly
