ROOD, Montello [Montello Township, Marquette County, Wisconsin], was born in 1820 in Washington County, Vermont. He had only the advantages of a common school, with the exception of four terms at a select school. In 1844 he moved to Janesville [Rock County, Wisconsin], and remained there until September 1848, when he went to Stanton. ["Stanton" should be "Stoughton" in Dunkirk Township, Dane County, Wisconsin. S. R. ROOD is appears in the 1850 census in Dane County, and the 1855 Wisconsin census places him in "Stoughton, Dane County." There is a "Stanton" in St. Croix County, Wisconsin, but S. R. ROOD is not listed in censuses for St. Croix County for 1850 or 1855.] In 1851 S. R. ROOD went to Packwaukee [Packwaukee Township, Marquette County, Wisconsin]. In 1854 he was elected to the Assembly. In 1857 he was deputized County Treasurer, and moved to Marquette County [Wisconsin], and remained there until the division in the county in 1858 [when Marquette County was divided and Green Lake County was created from its eastern portion], when he moved to Montello [Marquette County]. In the fall of 1858 he was elected County Treasurer, in 1865 was elected County Judge, and was elected again in 1869.
