WI BIO - Manitowoc Co - WILLS, Henry History of Northern Wisconsin. Chicago: Western Historical, 1881, vol II, p 536 Henry WILLS, farmer, Section 35, Manitowoc Rapids Township, Manitowoc County, Wisconsin, who has 120 acres of land, 70 acres under cultivation, was born 05 April 1824 in Upper Canada, and lived there twenty-two years. He then visited many portions of Wisconsin and Illinois, and finally located in Manitowoc Rapids Township in 1848. [Wisconsin became a State 29 May 1848.] He followed lumbering six years, since which he has engaged in farming. When he settled in the country, it was a complete wilderness, the largest town in the county being Manitowoc Rapids, then the county seat [present county seat is the city of Manitowoc.] On 16 December 1851 he [Henry WILLS] was married to Miss Hannah TUFTS. She was born 06 January 1830 in St. James, New Brunswick, Canada. They [Henry and Hannah (TUFTS) WILLS] have had nine children: (1) Millard A., deceased; (2) Wilmot H.; (3) James H.; (4) Elizabeth F.; (5) Ward B.; (6) Eddie E.; (7) Jacob L.; (8) Ettie A. [Etta A.?]; and (9) Millie M., deceased. [The biography text gives 1850 as the birth year of Hannah TUFTS, an obvious typo. Gravestone confirms 1830 is correct, and that Hannah (TUFTS) WILLS died 11 February 1916, and her husband, Henry WILLS, on 01 June 1905. Death records not viewed by submitter. The family burial plot is located in Evergreen Cemetery, Manitowoc, Manitowoc County, Wisconsin.] Submitted by Cathy Kubly
