HENRY MALDANER, retired merchant; came to Watertown in the fall of 1848; he was associated with Andrew Peterson in mercantile business until 1854. In 1856-57, he was in partnership with a cousin for about a year and a half; since that time he has given his attention to the profitable investments made by him. Mr. M. has been remarkably fortunate in his enterprises, never having been compelled to defer payment of his obligations. He has been Alderman of his ward. He was born in the Province of Nassau, New Prussia, May 31, 1821. His first wife was F. Fels; they were married in September, 1849; she died in March, 1862, leaving four children – Henry, Frank, Paulina (now Mrs. William A. Bierhaus) and Matilda.
