Lamoille RAYMOND, Albert C. Men of Vermont: Illustrated Biographical History of Vermonters & Sons of Vermont. Ullery. Brattleboro: Transcript Publishing Company, 1894, pp 333-334 Albert C. RAYMOND, of Stowe, was born 10 February 1842 in Stowe [Lamoille County, Vermont], son of Asa and Jane (LOVEJOY) RAYMOND. His father [Asa RAYMOND] is a prominent and lifelong resident of Stowe and has arrived at eighty years after a busy and successful career. Albert C. RAYMOND studied in the public schools and in Barre Academy, then under the charge of Professor SPAULDING. Immediately after the completion of his educational career in 1862 he enlisted in Company E, Thirteenth Regiment Vermont Volunteers, and 03 July 1863 helped stem the tide of PICKETT's charge at Gettysburg; never absent from duty a single day; at his discharge re-enlisted in the Seventeenth Regiment; was in every general engagement from the Wilderness to Appomatox; on 16 July 1864 was wounded in the face and temporarily lost the use of his eyes; rejoined his command in October; his company in the battle of Petersburg Mine was reduced to a corporal and eight men; was mustered out at the expiration of his term of service as captain of this gallant little band. On his return he sought his fortune in the West, and for eight years farmed in the state of Iowa. Here his children were born and here he had the misfortune to lose their excellent mother. Soon after this sad event he returned to his native town and engaged in various occupations including the care and labor of a small farm, while in addition he has given his attention to the settlement of estates and has acted as guardian and trustee; has for many years been selectman and town clerk; was made postmaster in 1889 and still holds that position; was a member of the General Assembly in 1886 and served on the committee on the division of the town of Rutland. He belongs to the order of the Loyal Legion; is past commander of H. H. Smith Post, Grand Army of the Republic, of Stowe; became a Free Mason thirty years ago, and has repeatedly filled the master's chair in Mystic Lodge No. 56, of Stowe. On 11 June 1865 he [Albert C. RAYMOND] married Priscilla, daughter of John and Louisa (TOWN) MOODY, of Stowe [Lamoille County, Vermont]; their union was blessed with three children: Louis H., Louise (Mrs. Fred FOGG, of Enfield [Grafton County], New Hampshire), and Maud B. Mrs. RAYMOND [Priscilla RAYMOND] died in 1872. Mr. [Albert C.] RAYMOND later married Martha, daughter of Hiram SMALLEY, of Greensboro [Orleans County, Vermont]; she [Martha RAYMOND] died in April 1882. In 1883 Mr. [Albert C.] RAYMOND married his third wife, Alice, daughter of Medad and Patty (MILLER) HITCHCOCK; of this union [Albert C. and Alice RAYMOND] three sons were issue, only one of whom, Paul, survives.
