LANDON, of Johnson [Lamoille County, Vermont], was born 28 June 1839 in South Hero [Grand Isle County, Vermont], son of John S. and Lucy (HINCKLEY) LANDON. Attended the common and private schools of his native town, and this, with three months of instruction at the Commercial College of New Haven [New Haven County], Connecticut, completed his education. Labored as a farmer in South Hero until nearly thirty years of age; then lived in Colchester [Chittenden County, Vermont], where he engaged in the manufacture of lumber and land plaster. Removed to Milton [Chittenden County, Vermont] for seventeen years and continued the same employment; also conducted an extensive grist mill. In Johnson for some time, he has been doing a business in feed and western grain, but his chief enterprise has been the erection of a creamery in connection with his mill. This he began to operate in 1892; has increased the capacity of the plant, which was 5,000 pounds of milk daily, to nearly five times that, calculating that thirty percent more product is realized than under the old system. Enlisted in August 1862 in Company C, Twelfth Regiment Vermont Volunteers, commanded by Col. A. P. BLUNT; served out his term and received an honorable discharge when the regiment was mustered out of service. Since that time has been a member of Old Brigade Post, Grand Army of the Republic, of Johnson. Republican; has never sought nor accepted political office. On 04 June 1867 he [O. B. LANDON] married Alice M., daughter of Horatio and Beulah (BLISS) CHAPIN, of Williston [Chittenden County, Vermont], who has borne him two children: Persis L., and Wilbur A. Submitted by Cathy Kubly
