Burlington: Ullery, 1912, p 114 George Lucian BATES, physician and surgeon, Morrisville [Vermont], was born 25 May 1871 in Morristown [Lamoille County, Vermont], son of George N. and Marion E. (WRIGHT) BATES. Educated in California public schools, People's Academy, Morrisville, and a graduate of University of Vermont College of Medicine, class of 1897. Mr. BATES lived in southern California 1885-1889. Has been engaged in the practice of medicine in Morrisville since 1897; is a member of the board of United States pension examining surgeons. In 1902 he [George Lucian BATES] married [Miss?] Maude M. WALSH of Philadelphia [Philadelphia County], Pennsylvania. They have two daughters: Marian Catherine and Frances Marie. Dr. BATES is a Republican. Member of the Lamoille County and Vermont State Medical Societies, and of the American Medical Association. Member of Mt. Vernon Lodge No. 8, Free & Accepted Masons; Tucker Chapter, Royal Arch Masons; Lamoille Commandery, Knights Templar; Mt.
