Burlington: Ullery Pub Co, 1912, p 100 Lyman Richards ALLEN, educator, Johnson, Lamoille County, Vermont, was born 26 February 1873 in East Bridgewater [Plymouth County], Massachusetts, son of James Sidney and Alice (RICHARDS) ALLEN. He was educated in the public schools of East Bridgewater, including high school (four years Latin course) [graduated in] 1889; Bridgewater State Normal School, 1894; Lawrence Scientific School (Harvard University), course in science for teachers, with degree S. B., 1898; and Harvard University summer sessions. Mr. ALLEN was employed in various departments of his father's shoe factory, Brockton [Plymouth County], Massachusetts, 1889-1890; instructor in sciences in high school and director of nature study in the grades at Plainfield [Union County], New Jersey, 1894-1896; assistant in Cuban summer school, Harvard, 1900; instructor, State Normal School, North Adams, Massachusetts, 1898-1908; instructor Rhode Island Normal School, 1908-1909; principal, Johnson State Normal since 1909; instructor in Vermont summer schools at Burlington, Morrisville, St. Johnsbury, Barton, Windsor, Rutland, and Johnson during five seasons, and principal at summer sessions of the Johnson Normal School 1910 and 1911. In 1902 Lyman Richards ALLEN married [Miss?] Catherine Wiley PARKER of North Adams, [Berkshire County], Massachusetts. They have two children, Alice Parker and Charles Warren. Mr. ALLEN is a Republican; library trustee of Johnson; member of Congregational Church; at various times actively connected with the Young Men's Christian Association, Sunday school, and Christian Endeavor society; member Greylock Lodge, Free & Accepted Masons, North Adams, Massachusetts; North Adams Country Club for a time; and various orchestras and bands.
