Burlington: Ullery Publishing Company, 1912, p 99 George Bassett ALLEN, farmer, lumber dealer, and insurance, Hyde Park [Lamoille County, Vermont], was born 13 May 1864, at Johnson [Lamoille County, Vermont], son of Leonard and Cynthia (BASSETT) ALLEN. He was educated at Lamoille Central Academy, Hyde Park; Johnson Normal School; and University of Vermont. He taught school three years; was a traveling salesman for C. E. Webb & Company, wholesale druggists, Jackson [Jackson County], Michigan, two years, and since then has been engaged as farmer, lumber dealer, and insurance agent. Mr. ALLEN is a Republican. He represented Hyde Park in the [Vermont] Legislature in 1898; was one of the committee on claims; has held the offices of selectman, lister, school director, school superintendent, constable, town grand juror, and justice of the peace; is president of the Gihon Valley School Union, embracing the towns of Eden, Hyde Park, and Johnson. He is a Congregationalist; Master of Gihon Valley Grange; Councilor, Junior Order of United American Mechanics; member of Waterman Lodge No. 83, Free & Accepted Masons, of Johnson; Tucker Chapter No. 15, Royal Arch Masons, of Morrisville; Bliss Lodge No. 44, Independent Order of Odd Fellows, of Hardwick; and Modern Woodmen of America.
