WOGAN, wagon maker [Darlington, Lafayette County, Wisconsin], was born 17 March 1810 in the city of Dublin, Ireland, where he grew up and learned his trade. He emigrated to the United States in 1848, and lived in New York for five years. He then came West to Illinois and lived in Rockford [Winnebago County] for one year, and the following year came to Darlington [Lafayette County, Wisconsin]. He worked at his trade one year, then engaged in business for himself, and has carried on the business since then. He is the oldest wagon maker in Darlington. Mr. [P. J.] WOGAN married Miss Elizabeth McCORMICK, who was also born in the city of Dublin, Ireland. They [P. J. and Elizabeth (McCORMICK) WOGAN] have ten children. Mr. WOGAN was elected City Alderman [in Darlington, Lafayette County], and held that office for two years. [P. J. WOGAN is listed (p 531) as a Councilman in the Village of Darlington for the 1876-1877 and 1877-1878 terms. Listed in the text directory for Darlington under wagonmakers (p 543) is "P. WAGON," and is the only place it appears as "WAGON." The only other mention of a WOGAN in the text (p 536) is "Addie V. WOGAN," who is listed among the seven graduates of the Free High School at Darlington in 1878.
