WILLIAMS, of the firm of Williams & Fisher, dealers in agricultural implements, Darlington, Lafayette County, Wisconsin, was born 14 April 1839 in Jo Daviess County, Illinois. He grew up and attended school there, and came to La Fayette County, Wisconsin, in 1858. Upon the breaking out of the Rebellion, R. H. WILLIAMS enlisted, 19 April 1861, in the 3rd Wisconsin Volunteer Infantry; afterward enlisted and served in the 50th W. V. I., and was commissioned First Lieutenant of Company C. He was wounded four times, once at battle of Cedar Mountain, twice at Chancellorsville, and once at Kenesaw Mountain. He served over five years, and was mustered out in June 1866. After his return he was elected Sheriff of La Fayette County, and was afterward elected Clerk of the Circuit Court; he holds the office of Deputy United States Marshal; he established their present business in 1875, and has built up a large trade. In February 1871 Mr. [R. H.] WILLIAMS was united in marriage to Miss Julia M. COTTLE, of Shullsburg, Lafayette County, Wisconsin. R. H. and Julia M. (COTTLE) WILLIAMS have one son, Charles G.
