ROSE, attorney at law, Main Street, Darlington, Darlington Township, Lafayette County, Wisconsin, was born 18 September 1817 in Delaware County, New York. He grew up and received his education in New York, studied law in Otsego County, New York, and was admitted to the bar of the Supreme Court, in Albany [Albany County, New York]. He was Clerk of the Assembly of New York in 1844, 1845, and 1850. Mr. ROSE came West to Wisconsin, settled in Lafayette County in 1851, and engaged in the practice of law. In 1850 Mr. [James R.] ROSE was united in marriage to Miss Phebe A. BUDLONG, who was born in New York. They [James A. and Phebe A. (BUDLONG) ROSE] have four children: (1) David S., an attorney at law here; (2) Anna; (3) Eber C.; and (4) Robert F. Mr. [James R.] ROSE is the oldest attorney now practicing in Lafayette County.
