John J. ROCHE, attorney, Darlington, Darlington Township, Lafayette County, 
Wisconsin, was born 26 September 1848 in Lafayette County, Wisconsin. He 
grew up and attended school here, and also attended Albion Academy, in Dane 
County [Wisconsin], and completed his education at the State Normal School at 
Platteville [Grant County, Wisconsin], graduating in 1873.

John J. ROCHE then engaged in teaching, and held the position of Principal of 
the Chilton High School [Chilton, Calumet County], Wisconsin, for two years. 
In 1875 he entered the office of Hon. H. S. MAGOON and studied law, and was 
admitted to the bar in June 1877. Since then he has practiced his profession 
[Darlington]. In 1878 John J. ROCHE was elected District Attorney, and still 
holds that office.
