WI BIO - Lafayette Co - RENNICK, Robert History of La Fayette County, Wisconsin. Chicago: Western Historical, 1881, pp 739-740 Robert RENNICK, farmer, Section 14 [Town of Shullsburg, which is Town 1 North, Range 2 East, in Lafayette County, Wisconsin], P. O. Shullsburg, was born in December 1830 in Ireland. In 1848 he came to Galena [Jo Daviess County, Illinois], and ran a furnace there until 1850, when he came to Shullsburg, and was [p 740] appointed agent for William HEMPSTEAD's mineral lands. He held this position ten years, nine months and nineteen days, and he received and paid for all the mineral produced, averaging from 100,000 to 250,000 a week. He then came to Gratiot's Grove, engaged in farming; was burned out, and returned to Shullsburg. He then bought the GATES farm, consisting of eighty acres, where he now resides. He also owns 200 acres in White Oak Springs [south of Shullsburg]. In 1851 he [Robert RENNICK] married Matilda COYN [a maiden name?], who was born in Ireland. They [Robert and Matilda RENNICK] had ten children, nine of whom are still living [text published 1881], three sons and six daughters. [The only other mention of a RENNICK in this source is a Henry RENNICK, listed (p 517) among the privates in Company C, Thirty-third Regiment, organized September 1862 in Shullsburg under the name of the Gaylord Guards, and again listed (p 521) under the Town of White Oak Springs, Company C, Thirty-third Infantry, in the roster of soldiers for Lafayette County.] Submitted by Cathy Kubly
