KREUGER, Edward Commemorative and Biographical Record of Columbia, Sauk and Adams Counties, WI. Chicago: Ogle, 1901, p 599-600 Edward KREUGER, a farmer of Sauk County, WI, [p 600] is now successfully carrying on general farming and stock breeding in Reedsburg Township. He was born near Berlin, Prussia, 14 Apr 1827, a son of William and Wilhelmina KREUGER. The father carried on a large estate in the province of Pomerania, Prussia, and died there. The mother afterward came to the new world and departed this life in Reedsburg, WI, 31 Dec 1894, at the advanced age of 89 years. In early life Edward KREUGER served for four years in the Prusian army during the Revolution of 1848, but was not engaged in any actual hostilities. He became overseer of a large estate owned by a nobleman and remained in his native land until 1854, when he sailed for the U. S., and on landing proceeded at once to WI. For ten years he made his home in Milwaukee [Milwaukee County, WI], where he owned some buildings, and in 1868 came to Reedsburg [Sauk County, WI], where, in company with Gustave RINCKE, he conducted a bakery for four years, the partnership being dissolved at the end of that time. In 1873 he erected the first brick building in Reedsburg and kept a billiard saloon there for about four years, when he traded it for his present farm of 160 acres in Reedsburg Township. At that time only 40 acres had been cleared, but now 120 acres are under excellent cultivation and supplied with first-class buildings and all the accessories needed by the progressive farmer of the present time. He makes a specialty of Poland-China hogs and Durham cattle, and in his undertaking is meeting with marked success. On 27 Nov 1870 Mr. KREUGER was united in marriage with Miss Minnie SCHROEDER, a native of Pomerania, Prussia, who came to America in 1866 with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Frederick SCHROEDER, who settled on a farm near Wonewoc [Juneau County], WI. Of the twelve children born of this union, eleven are still living: (1) Laura, now Mrs. Charles KROHN, of Reedsburg [Sauk County, WI]; (2) Edward, at home; (3) Henry, a harness maker, of Reedsburg [Sauk County, WI]; (4) William, at home; (5) Herman, a tinner of Baraboo [Sauk County, WI]; (6) Ida, a milliner; (7) Fred and (8) Richard, twins; and (9) Bertha; the last named three employed in the large department store of STOTTE, DANGEL & FOSS Company, at Reedsburg [Sauk County, WI; (10) Gustave and (11) Emma, both at home; and (12) Otto, who died at the age of 15 months. The family is connected with St. Peter's Lutheran church at Reedsburg [Sauk County, WI]. Since becoming an American citizen, Mr. KREUGER has been identified with the Democratic party, and was a member of the township board of supervisors for two years. Contributed by Cathy Kubly
