Jefferson; born Aug. 16, 1837, in Bavaria; came to America in the spring of 1847, and located in Waukesha Co., where his father bought forty acres of land; he died in 1851, when John and Charles Kohl inherited the property; in 1863, J. Kohl moved to Aztalan Township, Jefferson Co., and bought one hundred acres of land, with barns; he built his residence in 1869. He was Assessor of the Township in 1879, and Clerk of District Schools from 1872 to 1877, inclusive. Charles Kohl enlisted, in 1861, in the 5th W.V.I., and served with them till the battle of Williamsburg was fought, where he was killed, in 1862. Mr. J. Kohl married Miss Barbara Bruckner, of Aztalan, Sept. 22, 1863; six children – William, born June 6, 1864; Caroline, Oct. 14, 1865; Charles, June 9, 1869; Herman, Aug. 8, 1871; Ernest, Nov. 16, 1873; baby boy, Aug. 19, 1879.
