Married Louisa Menz in February, 1847; she was born on the river Rhine Dec. 18, 1822; they came to Watertown in 1853; worked about three months in brewery, and, for four years, worked by the month in a mill, having learned the milling business in Europe; rented a mill at Marshall, and carried it on for two years, then returned to Watertown and remained for a year; he then bought a mill at Beaver Dam and conducted it for four years; he then came to Hustisford and carried on milling there for four years, afterward returned to Watertown and purchased the Rough and Ready Mill, of which he is still a half-owner; he is now interested in grain and elevator business. Mr. Koenig visited Europe in 1873 and 1878; when he returned from his last trip, he brought with him two of his wife’s brother’s children – Fred and Louisa Mentz.
