WI BIO - Kenosha Co - ZAUN, Edwin J. History of Kenosha and Kenosha County Wisconsin. Lyman. Chicago: Clarke Pub. Co., 1916, vol II, pp 528-529 Edwin J. ZAUN of Salem [Kenosha County, Wisconsin], a worthy representative of the banking interests of Kenosha County, Wisconsin, who is serving as cashier of the Bristol State Bank and the Salem State Bank, was born in Washington County, Wisconsin, 14 August 1868, and is a son of L. H. and Pauline (BEYER) ZAUN, who were born in Germany and came with their respective parents to America in the early 1850's. For many years the father was engaged in farming in Washington County, Wisconsin, but is now living retired at the ripe old age of eighty-three years. The mother [Pauline (BEYER) ZAUN] died 22 October 1914. Edwin J. ZAUN acquired his early education in the district schools near his boyhood home and later attended the Normal School at Oshkosh [Winnebago County], Wisconsin, for two terms. He then engaged in farming on the old home place for twelve years and subsequently spent three years in Hartford [County], Wisconsin, after which he went to Milwaukee [Milwaukee County, Wisconsin], where he pursued a business and commercial course at McDonald's Business College. Since then Edwin J. ZAUN has been identified with the banking business. Coming to Bristol, Kenosha County [Wisconsin], in 1907, he [Edwin J. ZAUN] assisted in organizing the Bristol State Bank, which opened its doors for business in July 1907 with T. H. ZAUN as President; A. C. ZAUN, Vice President; and Edwin J. ZAUN, cashier. They do a general banking business and have [p 529] steadily prospered since the organization of the bank. In 1913 our subject organized the Salem State Bank [Salem, Kenosha County, Wisconsin], which began business on 03 December 1913, and its officers are F. F. SMITH, President; J. S. CULL, Vice President; and Edwin J. ZAUN, Cashier. Mr. ZAUN is thoroughly familiar with the banking business in all its details, is conservative, yet liberal in his policy, and has confidence of those with whom he is associated in any business transaction. In September 1892 Mr. [Edwin J.] ZAUN was united in marriage to Miss Alvina C. GROTH, a daughter of Ferdinand GROTH of Jackson County, Wisconsin. To Edwin J. and Alvina C. (GROTH) ZAUN have been born two children: Rosa E. and Clara P., who are assistant cashiers of the Bristol State Bank. The family are communicants of the German Lutheran church and are quite prominent socially. [There are two possibilities for what the author means by the "German Lutheran" church. The German Lutheran (Emanuel) Church, located in Paris, Kenosha County, Wisconsin, was built in 1862. The German Lutheran (Peace) Church, in the city of Kenosha, was organized 01 September 1856. Source: History of Racine and Kenosha Counties, 1879, p 541.] Mr. ZAUN stands high in business circles; he has the regard and friendship of all who know him. Submitted by Cathy Kubly
