WOODWORTH, farmer, Section 4, Pleasant Prairie Township, Kenosha County, Wisconsin, P.O. Kenosha, was born 13 May 1823 in Chittenden, Essex County Vermont. He went to Hartland, Niagara County, New York, for eighteen months. In his twentieth year he gave his father $60 for his time, and in 1844 came to Bristol Township, Kenosha County, Wisconsin, and worked for Harmon and Marsh for eighteen months, then bought a farm of sixty acres, which he gradually increased to 184 acres. During the years 1851 and 1852, Mr. [Lafayette D.] WOODWORTH was in California, successfully gold mining. From 1868 to 1870 he was in Beloit [Rock County], Wisconsin. He bought ten acres of land and a house and lot, which he afterward sold, and went back to Bristol Township [Kenosha County] in 1872 and stayed until 1875, when he sold his property, moved to Pleasant Prairie, and bought his farm of 305 acres, upon which he raises all kinds of grain and stock. On 31 November 1846 he [Lafayette D. WOODWORTH] married Miss Eliza SMITH of Kenosha County, Wisconsin. They [Lafayette D. and Eliza (SMITH) WOODWORTH] have eight children: (1) Francis A., born 09 October 1847; (2) Mary, born 12 July 1850; (3) Joel N., born 11 March 1852; (4) Emily, born 27 September 1859; (5) Harvey P., born 26 April 1861; (6) Lilly May, born 17 October 1864; (7) William, born 07 October 1867; and (8) Lafayette D. [Jr.], born 31 May 1872. He [the father, Lafayette D. WOODWORTH, was Roadmaster for several years, both in Bristol and Pleasant Prairie Townships, Kenosha County, and School Clerk for both townships.
