Chicago: Western Historical, 1879, pp 706-707 Matthew SCOTT, farmer, Section 35, Pleasant Prairie Township, Kenosha County, Wisconsin, P.O. Kenosha, was born 20 April 1809 in Perthshire, Scotland, where he engaged in business as a brewer. He came to America in 1844 and located in Pleasant Prairie Township on 1 August [1844]; bought his farm of 160 acres, about twelve of which have been cultivated, built his homestead, a handsome brick edifice, barns, etc.; he raises all kinds of grain and stock. On 16 December 1831 in Scotland he [Matthew SCOTT] married [his first wife] Miss Jane BARCLAY of Scotland; she died 09 March 1875. They [Matthew and Jane (BARCLAY) SCOTT] had five children: David, Lawrence, Matthew, Anne, and Jane. His three sons served in the army: David SCOTT served in the [p 707] 116th Illinois Regiment and was confined in Libby prison for eight months; Lawrence SCOTT served in the 153rd Illinois Regiment; and Matthew SCOTT served in the Commissary Department. On 17 October 1876 Mr. [Matthew] SCOTT married [his second wife] Miss Jane SCOTT of Scotland. They [Matthew and Jane (SCOTT) SCOTT] belong to the Episcopal Methodist Church, built just across the line in [Lake County] Illinois, of which Mr. SCOTT is Treasurer and Trustee.
