Lyman. Clarke Publishing, 1916, v 2, pp 49-50 Albert SCHNUCKEL, long identified with the farming interests of Kenosha County, now owning and operating a well-improved place in Pleasant Prairie Township, Kenosha County, Wisconsin, was born 18 February 1848 in Prussia, Germany, a son of Frederick and Caroline SCHNUCKEL. He [Albert] attended the common schools in Germany until fourteen years of age, and then assisted his father in the operation of the home farm until he attained his majority. After a pleasant voyage of nine days on the steamer "Vizor," Albert SCHNUCKEL landed in the United States in 1869. Coming west he took up his abode in Kenosha County and secured employment on a farm. He continued to work for others until 1875, when he purchased fifty acres of land, and has since bought another tract of seventy acres. Since then Mr. SCHNUCKEL has devoted his energies to the improvement and cultivation of his farm, has had most gratifying results, and today [1916] has a well-improved and highly-cultivated place. In 1875 Mr. [Albert] SCHNUCKEL was united in marriage to Miss Caroline KEENE, a [p 50] daughter of Mathias KEENE. To this union [to Albert and Caroline (KEENE) SCHNUCKEL] have been born eight children: Margaret, William, Fred, Mary, Rose, Bennie, Frank, and Clara. In religious faith the family are Catholics. The Republican party finds in Mr. SCHNUCKEL a stanch supporter of its principles, but at local elections he votes for the man whom he believes best fitted for the office regardless of party ties. For six terms Albert SCHNUCKEL has served as a member of the school board, and he has always been found true to any trust reposed in him. He is a self-made man, whose success in life is due entirely to his own unaided efforts, his prosperity being well-merited. Biography of William SCHNUCKEL [son of Albert] History of Kenosha & Kenosha County, Wisconsin. Lyman. Clarke Publishing, 1916, v 2, pp 131-132 William SCHNUCKEL, successfully conducting a large livery barn in Kenosha, was born 21 November 1880 in Kenosha County, Wisconsin, a son of Albert and Kate (KEENE) SCHNUCKEL, both of whom were born in Germany and were brought to this country by their respective parents, who settled in Kenosha. The paternal grandfather of our subject, Frederick [p 132] SCHNUCKEL, engaged in farming in Somers and Pleasant Prairie Townships, Kenosha County, and the father [Albert SCHNUCKEL] followed agricultural pursuits in Pleasant Prairie Township. Both he and his wife [both Albert and Kate (KEENE) SCHNUCKEL] are still [text published 1916] living. William SCHNUCKEL is indebted for his education to the country schools of Kenosha County and also to St. James school at Kenosha. He worked for some time for Frank NELSON, who was engaged in the livery business, and for eight and a half years was in the employ of the Hansen Undertaking Company. At the end of that time he had saved sufficient money to buy the livery business which he is now conducting under his own name. When he purchased the barn only seven horses were used in the business, but he has since added to that number, until he now has twenty-one horses and his patronage has increased accordingly. His charges are reasonable, his horses kept in good condition, and his livery barn is one of the best in the city of Kenosha. He also keeps a boarding stable and derives a gratifying profit from that branch of his business. In 1906 Mr. [William] SCHNUCKEL was married to Miss Clara MUNGEN, who was born in Kenosha County, Wisconsin. They [William and Clara (MUNGEN) SCHNUCKEL] had three children: Alice, Chester, and William, Jr. The wife and mother [Clara (MUNGEN) SCHNUCKEL] died 17 October 1915, and her demise was sincerely regretted by all who had been closely associated with her. Mr. [William] SCHNUCKEL casts a non-partisan ballot, supporting the men whom he considers best fitted for office without regard to their political allegiance. Fraternally he belongs to the Moose and the Eagles, and he attends St. James Roman Catholic church. He is a young man of ability and energy, and his continued success in business seems assured.
