WI BIO - Kenosha Co - SCHLITZ, Jacob History of Kenosha & Kenosha County, Wisconsin. Lyman. Clarke Publishing, 1916, v 2, pp 529-530 Jacob SCHLITZ, a prosperous farmer of Paris Township, Kenosha County who began his independent career practically empty handed, his success the result of his own industry and good management, was born 22 November 1872 in Paris Township, Kenosha County, Wisconsin, a son of Jacob and Agnes (GRIMM) SCHLITZ, both natives of Germany. In early manhood the father came to the United States and bought land in Paris Township, Kenosha county, where he was identified with agricultural pursuits until his death in 1875. The farm, which comprises one hundred and twenty acres, was well improved and yielded a good return for his labor. He was a Democrat in politics and took the interest of a good citizen in public affairs. His wife [Agnes (GRIMM) SCHLITZ], who was born in 1837, survives and continues to make her home in Paris Township. They [Jacob and Agnes (GRIMM) SCHLITZ] were married in Kenosha County, Wisconsin, and became the parents of thirteen children, of whom eleven are still living: Adam, a resident of Kenosha County; Mary, the wife of Peter LUDWIG, a farmer of Brighton Township, Kenosha County; John, employed in the roundhouse at Waukegan, Lake County, Illinois; Mary, the wife of John COLEMAN, who works in the shops at Waukegan; Emma, who makes her home with Mat ; Frank, a farmer in Paris Township, Kenosha County; Jennie; Jacob, of this review; and Lena, the wife of Frank MULLENBACH, who is employed in the shops in Kenosha. [Note that only ten of the eleven living are named.] The family is Roman Catholic in religious faith. Jacob SCHLITZ is indebted for his education to the district schools of Paris Township and early in life received other valuable training, for as soon as he was old and strong enough he began assisting in the operation of the home farm. His father died when he was but a child and it became incumbent upon him and his older brothers to farm the homestead. He has never followed any other occupation and the concentration of his energies upon agricultural work has been on of the factors in his success. He rented the home place for four years, but in 1907 purchased eighty acres from his mother on time. He has now paid off all the indebtedness upon his place and is in very comfortable circumstances. He early recognized the fact that lasting success must be based upon [p 530] industry and good management, and those qualities have always characterized him in the conduct of his work. He recently erected an attractive and commodious residence and everything about his place is up-to-date and in good condition. In 1904 Mr. [Jacob] SCHLITZ was married to Miss Hannah JANSEN, who was born in Denmark, but was reared in Racine and Kenosha Counties, Wisconsin, as her parents became residents of Wisconsin when she was a child. To Mr. and Mrs. SCHLILTZ [to Jacob and Hannah (JANSEN) SCHLITZ] were born five children: Sylvester; Racella; Harold, deceased; Leander; and Earl. Mr. SCHLITZ indorses the principles of the Democratic party and supports its candidates at the polls, but has never been an aspirant for public office. He is a communicant of the Roman Catholic church and contributes to the support of its work. Practically his entire time is given to his agricultural operations, and he is recognized as one of the most efficient farmers and stock raisers of his locality. Submitted by Cathy Kubly
