Clarke Publishing, 1916, v 2, pp 167-168 Albert SCHENNING, who for many years was engaged in farming in Salem Township, Kenosha County, Wisconsin, and died 09 June 1914, was born 27 November 1850 in Mecklenburg, Germany, a son of Frederick and Charlotte (PAGEL) SCHENNING, natives of Germany. On emigrating to America they first located in Ohio, but subsequently lived consecutively in Madison [Dane County] and Milwaukee [Milwaukee County], Wisconsin, and in 1866 came to Kenosha County, locating in Salem Township, where the father [Frederick SCHENNING] purchased a farm of several hundred acres, a part of which is now the site of the town of Silver Lake. Albert SCHENNING was educated in Milwaukee and in the district schools of Kenosha County, and during his boyhood and youth became familiar with practical methods of agriculture through assisting his father on the farm. After reaching mature years he continued to follow the occupation, and was very successful as a farmer. Following the death of Frederick SCHENNING, the home place was divided between his three sons, and Albert SCHENNING then turned the operation of his farm over to others and devoted his time to the supervision of his property interests in Silver Lake until his death, 09 June 1914. Subsequently a sister-in-law, Mrs. William SCHENNING, purchased his [Albert SCHENNING's] interest in the home place, but his [Albert SCHENNING'S] widow still retains considerable property, including houses and lots in Salem [Kenosha County]. Mr. [Albert] SCHENNING was also a Director of the Silver Lake Bank. In 1875 Mr. [Albert] SCHENNING was married to Miss Marie STANDT, born in Germany, a daughter of Karl and Fredricka STANDT, who located on emigrating to America located in [p 168] Chicago, Illinois, but later became residents of Kenosha County, Wisconsin. Mr. and Mrs. SCHENNING [Albert and Marie (STANDT) SCHENNING] had three children: (1) Elizabeth, deceased; (2) William, deceased, who is survived by his widow and a son, Albert, both residents of Silver Lake; and (3) Minnie, who married Frederick KUNOW of Chicago, by whom she has two children, Leslie and Clifford. Mr. SCHENNING exercised his right of franchise in support of the candidates and measures of the Democratic party, but was not an aspirant for office. He was a member of the German Lutheran church and his conduct measured up to high standards of morality. He was widely known throughout Kenosha County; was respected as a man of ability, and held the warm personal friendship of many. Biography of Fred K. SCHENNING, farmer, Section 17, Salem Township, Kenosha County, Wisconsin, P. O. Fox River [located on the boundary between Salem and Wheatland Townships in Kenosha County, and on the Rockford Division of the Chicago & Northwestern Railway], was born in 1856 in Dane County, Wisconsin, son of Fred SCHENNING, Sr., who was born in 1821 in Germany and came to America in 1850; settled first in Cleveland [Cuyahoga County], Ohio. Fred SCHENNING, Sr., moved West twenty-three years ago [about 1856], is now [1879] fifty-eight years of age, and resides in Wilmot [about three miles south of Fox River, Salem Township]. Fred K. SCHENNING [the subject] lived in Dane County, Wisconsin, about ten years, resided in Milwaukee [Milwaukee County] one year, and then settled in Salem Township, Kenosha County, where he is now [1879] engaged in farming. The farm embraces 260 acres of good land, well improved, and is valued at about $10,000. The principal products are grain, wool, and livestock. The residence, a neat frame building, is pleasantly situated near the borders of Silver Lake [in Salem Township]. An orchard of one hundred and fifty trees, in good bearing, is near the house. The wife of Mr. [Fred K.] SCHENNING [the subject], whose maiden name was Miss Eliza PROSSER, was born in Kenosha County, Wisconsin. Fred K. and Eliza (PROSSER) SCHENNING are both members of the Lutheran Church of Wilmot [Salem Township, Kenosha County]. Biography of William A. SCHENNING, who was a prominent farmer of Salem Township and who aided in laying out the town of Silver Lake in Salem Township, was born 30 August 1857 in Madison, Dane County, Wisconsin, son of Frederick and Charlotte (PAGEL) SCHENNING, who were born in Germany, about 1851 emigrated to America, and located first in Ohio, whence they removed to Madison, Wisconsin. Subsequently they lived for a short time in Milwaukee, but in 1866 they came to Kenosha County, and the father [Frederick SCHENNING, Sr.] purchased several hundred acres of land in Salem Township. He engaged in farming until his demise, and his well directed labors were rewarded by large crops. William A. SCHENNING attended the district schools, and during his boyhood became familiar with agricultural methods. After he had grown to manhood he and his brother Fred platted the town site of Silver Lake in Salem Township, Kenosha County, which consists of part of the old SCHENNING farm. Our subject [William SCHENNING] devoted his time to agricultural pursuits until his demise, 04 March 1903. He was progressive and practical in his methods, and gained recognition as one of the efficient and prosperous farmers of his locality. Following his [William A. SCHENNING's] death and that of his father [Frederick SCHENNING] the estate was divided between F. H. SCHENNING, Albert SCHENNING, and the heirs of William A. SCHENNING, whose widow has since purchased the interest of Albert SCHENNING, and she and her sons now own two hundred and four acres of the homestead, all of which is well improved. The sons operate the place and in addition to growing grain engage in dairying. The place is known as the Silver Lake View Farm and everything is kept in fine condition. On 30 August 1887 Mr. [William A.] SCHENNING was married to Miss Minnie NICHOLS, a daughter of Frederick and Crystal (BATEMAN) NICHOLS, both of whom were born in Germany, and came to America, locating in McHenry County, Illinois, where both passed away. Mr. and Mrs. SCHENNING [William A. and Minnie (NICHOLS) SCHENNING] have five children: (1) Emma, who married David ELFERS of Randall Township, Kenosha County; (2) Frederick, also of Randall Township; (3) Otto and (4) Marie, who are both operating the home farm; and (5) Bert, who is attending school. Mr. [William A.] SCHENNING was a Democrat, and served two terms as Road Supervisor, proving capable and public-spirited in the discharge of his duties. He attended the German Lutheran church and guided his life by high standards of morality.
