Chicago: Western Historical, 1879, p 699 Paul SAUBER, grocer, city of Kenosha, Kenosha County, Wisconsin, was born 10 April 1843 in Germany. He came to Wisconsin in 1848 [Wisconsin became a State 29 May 1848], locating at Port Washington [then in Milwaukee County, but since 07 March 1853 in Ozaukee County], where his father purchased a farm, and he [Paul SAUBER] remained until 1858, when he came to Kenosha and went to work at the brick business for four years. In 1862 he [Paul SAUBER] enlisted in the 34th Wisconsin Regiment for nine months service, afterward joining the 1st Wisconsin Heavy Artillery; in 1865 he was mustered out and returned to Kenosha. In 1868 he [Paul SAUBER] married Miss Barbara BREMER, a native of Wisconsin. They [Paul and Barbara (BREMER) SAUBER] have had five children, three girls and two boys. The family are members of the Catholic Church. In November 1869 Paul SAUBER opened a grocery store on Main Street [renamed Sixth Avenue about 1926], his present location. Submitted by Cathy Kubly
