WI BIO - Kenosha Co - RUSSAKOV, Samuel Irwin History of Kenosha and Kenosha County, Wisconsin. Lyman. Chicago: Clarke Publishing, 1916, vol II, pp 497-498 Dr. Samuel Irwin RUSSAKOV, D. D. S., Kenosha, Kenosha County, Wisconsin, who in the notably short space of four years has won a position of distinction as a dental practitioner in Kenosha, building up a practice of very gratifying proportions, was born in Chicago [Cook County, Illinois] on 11 July 1890, a son of Isaac and Sarah (BABAD) RUSSAKOV. The father [Isaac RUSSAKOV], who for many years conducted business in the manufacture of tin cans in Chicago, is now deceased. His [Samuel Irwin RUSSAKOV's] mother [Mrs. Sarah (BABAD) RUSSAKOV, if not remarried] still resides there [Chicago]. Dr. RUSSAKOV, one of a family of eight children, obtained his preliminary education in the Jewish Training School of Chicago, from which institution he graduated in 1904. He then entered the Richard T. Crane Manual Training School, completing his studies there in 1907. Having determined to make dentistry his life work, he entered the University of Illinois and completed his course in its dental department with the class of 1910. He then opened an office in Chicago, where he practiced for two years, and in 1912 came to Kenosha, Wisconsin. He has had remarkable success, and through his native and acquired ability has built up a fine practice in a notably short space of time. His gradings for the three years of college work and in the state board examinations of Illinois (1910) and Wisconsin (1912) were exceedingly high, having borne him high honors in all of them. He passed the Illinois civil service examination in 1910 for dental interne in the state institutions with a mark of ninety-six percent. In 1914, out of a class of 166 who took the examination for dentist in the Cook County institutions, only three [p 498] passed, of which he was one, and he received the appointment of dentist for Cook County at the Oak Forest Infirmary, which position he still holds. Dr. [Samuel Irwin] RUSSAKOV is a member of the Kenosha County Dental Association. He is constantly on the alert to improve his methods and is therefore quick to adopt any new idea which his judgment sanctions as of value in his work. He is identified with Psi Omega dental fraternity, and the Beta Phi fraternity, being former Treasurer and at present a member of the Supreme Council of the Beta Phi organization. He belongs to Kenosha Lodge, Independent Western Star Order; and while in Chicago he presided for four consecutive terms as President of the Palassian Society, a literary and dramatic organization. He is independent in politics, and too busy in his profession to devote time to anything but his practice. He deserves much credit for what he has accomplished, and already he has advanced far on the path toward prosperity and prominence. Submitted by Cathy Kubly
