John WILLIAMS, hardware merchant; firm of Williams & Brother, Necedah, Juneau County, Wisconsin, was born in 1846 in England. When but two years of age, was brought by his parents to the United States, settling in Grant County, Wisconsin, where he received an academic education at the State Normal School of Plattville. In 1862 he went to California, and remained four years, when he returned to Grant County, Wisconsin. In 1868 he went to Boone County, Iowa, and engaged in an hotel business for about nine months, at the end of which time, in the fall of 1869, he came to Necedah, and in partnership with I. OATES, engaged in hardware business, under the firm name of I. Oates & Company, for about two years, when Mr. OATES withdrew, Thomas H. WILLIAMS taking his place, since which time the business has continued under the firm name of J. Williams & Brother. [Note inference that Thomas H. WILLIAMS is a brother of John WILLIAMS.] Is a Democrat in politics; has been Deputy Sheriff two years, and held other local offices. In 1868 John WILLIAMS was married to Alice COOPER [a maiden name?], a native of New York. They [John and Alice WILLIAMS] have four children: Ida L., Emil C., John, and Frank H. Biography of Thomas H. WILLIAMS (brother of John) Thomas [H.] WILLIAMS was born in Grant County, Wisconsin, in 1852. He received a common school education, and lived in Grant County until 1871, when he came to Necedah [Juneau County, Wisconsin], and has since been a member of the firm of J. Williams & Brother. In 1874 Thomas [H.] WILLIAMS was married to Arabella SQUIRES, a native of England, who was born in 1854. In politics, Mr. [Thomas H.] WILLIAMS is a Republican. Submitted by Cathy Kubly
