WI BIO - Green Co - Young, W. W. History of Green County, WI. Springfield, IL: Union Publishing, 1884, pp 738-741 Mr. W. W. Young was born in Cattaraugus County, New York, 24 October 1837, and is a son of Robert and Jane Ann (BEAM) YOUNG, who came to Wisconsin in 1839 and settled in Walworth County, where they spent the remainder of their lives. In 1856 the subject of this sketch [W. W. YOUNG] went to Waupaca County, Wisconsin, from whence he came to Green County in 1859. In 1859 W. W. YOUNG was married to Margaret DOBBS, a daughter of Jeremiah and Susannah (LORING) DOBBS. W. W. YOUNG was then engaged in farming in Spring Grove [Green County, Wisconsin]. In 1866 he came to Brooklyn [Green County, Wisconsin] and purchased a farm near Attica, upon which he settled. He subsequently rented his farm and engaged for about three years in a general mercantile business at Attica [Green County, Wisconsin], being in partnership with C. D. W. LEONARD a portion of that time. He then returned to his farm, and has since been extensively engaged in stock raising; his farm contains 317 acres, and his improvements are among the best in town. W. W. and Margaret (DOBBS) YOUNG have had six children, five living: (1) Porter H., the only child not still at home, who went to Idaho in the spring of 1861, where he has been engaged in mining up to the present time; (2) Jerry R.; (3) Frank; (4) Ida; (5) May; (6) Willie H.. (7) William W. died 21 January 1864. [Numbering of children added by submitter and is not meant to indicate order of birth. Submitter counts seven children, not six. A typo may exist in the original text, which may make "Willie H." and "William W." the same person; this would make six children. Submitter has tentatively numbered William W. as the seventh child, since it is possible but unlikely (unless a multiple birth occurred) that the subject (whose name is given as "W. W.," not "William W.") had six or seven children between his marriage in 1859 and 1864, when "William W." died. No birth dates for the children are provided in the biography, which also speaks of the subject ("W. W.") in the present tense. Submitter has found the number of children incorrectly identified often enough in biographies to tentatively label "William W." as the seventh child. It is left to the researcher to provide evidence for what can be discerned as "truth."] Politically W. W. YOUNG is a national Greenbacker, but was formerly a Democrat. He has been Chairman of his town, and held other local offices; is a member of the United Brethren church. [Researchers are strongly encouraged to view census, primary, and other records as evidence for names, dates, and places for events given in any biography.] Submitted by Cathy Kubly
