Springfield, IL: Union, 1884, p 738 George WINTER was born 12 January 1827 in Suffolk, England, and his parents were John and Sarah WINTER. George remained in England until 1854, then emigrated to the United States, and first settled in Rock County, Wisconsin. In 1855 George WINTER came to Green County, Wisconsin, and purchased sixty acres on Section 12, Brooklyn [Brooklyn Township, in the northeast corner of Green County], and eighty acres in [adjacent] Rock County. This land was entered by A. TUPPER, but Mr. WINTER purchased it of Harvey CHURCH. There was some of the land broken, but the improvements were very meager at the time. The place is now adorned with a fine residence and good barns. Mr. WWINTER now owns 200 acres, and his son, Alfred, owns forty acres. In 1855 he [George WINTER] was married to Elizabeth WINTER [a maiden name?], also a native of England. They [George and Elizabeth WINTER] have four children living: Alfred, Walter, Nellie, and Earnest. Mr. [George] WINTER is a member of the Methodist Episcopal church. Submitted by Cathy Kubly
