Springfield IL: Union, 1884, p 1045 Jacob REGEZ, [cheese manufacturer, Section 33, New Glarus, Green County, Wisconsin], was born 25 September 1849 in Canton Bern, Switzerland. He came to the United States in 1869, and lived in Ohio one year. His father at that time was operating a large cheese factory in France, and having other interests demanding his attention, Jacob returned to France to take charge of this factory. He remained in France, thus employed, for two and a half years, when the Franco-Prussian War compelled a suspension of the business, and he returned to the United States, accompanied by his brother, Rudolph. In the fall of 1872 Jacob REGEZ was in New Glarus [Green County, Wisconsin], where he established himself in the cheese manufacturing business. He is a present [1884] successfully operating ten cheese factories. He thoroughly understands the art of cheese making, and has acquired quite a fortune in the business. His father, [also named] Jacob REGEZ, died in Switzerland in 1878, and his mother is living in Switzerland. Jacob [the subject] returned to Switzerland on a visit in 1883. Rudolph REGEZ, who came here in 1870, lives in Dane County, where he operates six cheese factories. [Dane County, Wisconsin, is adjacent to and north of New Glarus Township, Green County.] Another brother, Ernest, and a sister, Susan, came to this county [Green] in 1880. Ernest REGEZ is in the employ of Jacob, and Susan is living in Monroe [Green County, Wisconsin]. Rosie, a younger sister of Jacob, accompanied him on his return in 1883, and is now a member of his family. On 20 January 1876 Jacob REGEZ was married to [Miss?] Louisa WITTWER.
