GANONG, merchant and Postmaster, Fort Atkinson; born in Townsendville, Seneca Co., N.Y., July 24, 1830; son of Gilbert and Maria (Coryell) Ganong; came to Wisconsin Oct. 6, 1859, remaining the following winter at Elkhorn; March, 1860, he moved to Fort Atkinson and opened business for himself, which ahs been successful.. Married, Nov. 11, 1857, in New York City, Miss Harriet A. Prentice, daughter of William and Fanny L. (Benton) Prentice; they have had three children – William G., born April 5, 1861; Lillian A., July 25, 1866; Fanny M., Aug. 9, 1863, died May 27, 1865. Has been elected at different times Trustee of the village; held the office of School District Clerk fourteen years and is now in his fifteenth year; appointed Postmaster in 1865, and took possession of the office Jan. 1, 1866; April 25, 1865, was appointed Inspection for Internal Revenue Department; member of Masonic Order and I.O.O.F; with the exception of one or two years, was a member of Republican County Committee from 1863 to 1878.
