KELLEY, real estate and bonds, St. Albans [Franklin County, Vermont], was born 20 November 1847 in Ireland, son of Barney and Elizabeth (LARKIN) KELLEY. Educated in the public schools, and at New Hampton Institute, Fairfax [Franklin County, Vermont]. Republican; was appointed deputy sheriff of Franklin County 1867; inspector of U. S. customs 1869; promoted to deputy collector of customs 1879; elected constable and collector of taxes for the town of St. Albans 1886, which position he held until 1890, when he was elected sheriff of the county. After retiring from the office of sheriff, Mr. KELLEY devoted his time to bond and real estate business, and now holds the offices of deputy sheriff, justice of the peace, and notary public. A public-spirited gentleman, has always been interested in the affairs of his town and city, and has held many local offices. Was connected with the fire department many years; was its chief engineer three years, also a member of the school board of the old town of St. Albans, and its chairman for four years.
