Brattleboro: Transcript Publishing Company, 1894, p 169 Benjamin Harrison HAILE, of Montgomery, was born 26 December 1846 in Montgomery [Franklin County, Vermont], son of Nathan and Mary Ann (TARBELL) HAILE. The family of HAILE came from Scotland to Rhode Island at an early day in the colonial period. Nathan HAILE was an early settler in Montgomery, a farmer and lumberman. Benjamin HAILE was the fourth child of a family of five, and was born on the farm where he now resides. He received his education in the schools of Montgomery. Early inured to the labor of the farm, he developed a sturdy physique and unusual executive ability, and from the time of his arrival at man's estate has taken charge of all the business appertaining to his father's farm and also of other properties which he has purchased from time to time. In the winter he devotes his attention to lumbering. In every calling he has met with merited success. He was largely instrumental in establishing a cooperative creamery at Montgomery. Republican; has filled many public positions. In his native town, composed largely of a foreign element, his wise counsel and prudent advice have been influential and beneficial in the management of public affairs; was a useful member of the House of Representatives in 1888; has been county commissioner. In 1880 Mr. [Benjamin Harrison] HAILE married Hattie, daughter of A. P. and Harriet (RAWSON) RICHARDSON; their children are: John Rawson, and Clarence Hamilton. Submitted by Cathy Kubly
