Columbus and Martha D. (WEBBER) GREENE. Educated at New Hampton Institution, Fairfax [Franklin County, Vermont]; Brandon Seminary; Norwich University; Colgate University (graduated 1873); Hamilton Theological Seminary (graduated 1875); A. B., A. M., Colgate University; D. D., Rochester, Colgate and Howard, 1883; LL. D., Columbian and Howard Universities 1895. Ordained to the Baptist ministry at Cazenovia [Madison County], New York, in June 1875; was pastor at Cazenovia Church 1875-1879; Calvary Baptist Church, Washington, D. C., 1879 to date (membership 1800, Sunday school 2600, church property $300,000, annual receipts $45,000); was trustee of Columbian University 1889-1911; chairman of the board of trustees 1899-1900; acting president 1894-1895, 1900-1902; and vice president of the Northern Baptist convention 1897-1898. Member of the Archaeological Institute of America, National Geographic Society, Sons of American Revolution, Delta Upsilon Fraternity; and Theta Sigma Clerical Club. Author of "The Twentieth Century Sunday School," a series of lectures delivered before the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary at Louisville, Kentucky in 1903. Residence is at 1320 Q Street, Washington, D. C. In 1866 Mr. [Samuel Harrison] GREENE married Miss Lucia A. BUZZELL of Montgomery [Franklin County, Vermont]; they have one son, Samuel H.
