ALFRED, farmer and deputy sheriff, St. Albans, Franklin County, Vermont, was born 23 April 1845 at Fairfax, Franklin County, Vermont, son of Samuel D. and Polly S. (SMITH) ALFRED. He was educated in the public schools. From 1866 to 1867 he engaged with his father in mercantile business in Fairfax, then purchased the business and continued to 1897. Since 1898 he has been deputy sheriff at St. Albans. Mr. ALFRED is a Republican, and represented Fairfax in the Legislature in 1896. In religious belief he is a Baptist. In 1866 John B. ALFRED married Susan A. BRADLEY of Fairfield, Franklin County, Vermont. They have four children: Anna E., Samuel D., Nathan B., and Chauncey A. Submitted by Cathy Kubly
